Never too far / Hero medley" was released on December 11, 2001 in the USA only. The proceeds of this single were donated to the New York City Police Heroes Fund, which was set up to aid the families of police officers killed during the September 11 terror attacks. The single features a medley of "Never Too Far" and "Hero", and the B-side is an unreleased ballad, "There For Me", which was produced by David Foster and written by Diane Warren and Mariah
Mariah told the New York Post how she came up with the idea for the single. "So many people were asking me to sing 'Never Too Far' and 'Hero' at fundraisers that I decided to make a medley of the two. This all happened by accident, but I really feel they work together. Even though it's only a single, I wanted the proceeds to benefit the N.Y.C. Police Heroes Fund."
Unfortunately, this single was a big flop.

Mariah disse al New York Post come l'è nata l'idea del medley. "Molte persone mi chiedevano di cantare Never too Far e Hero, è per questo che è nato il medley tra le due. E' successo quasi per caso, ma credo che la cosa funzioni bene. E' solo un singolo, e volevo aiutare il the N.Y.C. Police Heroes Fund versando i profitti."
